The Petroleum Geosciences research group applies various geo-science techniques for energy related challenges in the sub-surface. We work on applied research projects like exploration and production of oil & gas, CO2 storage and monitoring, geothermal energy, and shale gas. Hence we work on challenging projects with a high societal impact and regular interactions with international stakeholders. You will be part of the basin modeling and geochemical team and will use your geoscientific and basin modelling expertise to develop new concepts and understanding for mainly exploration related problems in a variety of domestic and international projects. These projects vary from joint industry research projects to business-to-business consultancy projects in which we aim to come up with innovative solutions and methods. To improve our boundary conditions we use for instance our own heat flow modelling software and apply geobiological data to predict surface temperatures more accuratly. You will work in multidisciplinary project teams closely together with geologists, (bio) stratigraphers, geochemists and reservoir engineers. Basin and petroleum systems modelling, the analysis and interpretation of the modelling results and writing reports will be important parts of your work. You will frequently meet with customers and partners to discuss new research and project idea's and to present project progress and research output.

 

Requirements

Preferably you have a PhD in Geoscience and good knowledge and understanding of stratigraphic and structural evolution of sedimentary basins in relation to petroleum systems. Familiarity with basin and petroleum systems modelling is an important advantage. You are self-motivated with an ability to work in multidisciplinary teams. You are willing to work in a content driven challenging organization that requires self-initiative and a creative mind set. You are able to transfer challenges from customers into a R&D context and vice versa. Hence, you have excellent communicative skills and you are experienced in writing reports and proposals.
